Flora and Fauna

The Auvergne's volcanic history and effects of glacial and climatic conditions have developed a landscape which is truly unique and varied, from the lush combination of deciduous and coniferous forests, lakes, alpine meadows, upland and limestone plateaus. The area is truly wild and unspoilt and therefore encourages plant and animal life which are rarely found in the rest of central and western Europe today.

The craggy rocks and alpine meadows are home to stunning natural spring displays of flowers, such as gentians, wild pansies, wild jasmine, snowbells, bluebells and orchids, the list is endless. Be sure to get your camera ready for some stunning photographs!

Red squirrels are a sight to behold as they are so infrequently seen in the UK today, roe-deer, red deer and wild boar can be seen. Lizards and many beautiful species of butterflies abound in the summer months. The majestic Eagle Owls, short-toed eagles, royal and black kites, kestrels, peregrines and other species of eagle including the Golden which is awesome to see in such a natural environment!
