Saint Saturnin - This town is situated south west of Clermont-Ferrand and has preserved
it's mediaeval character well. The town is dominated by it's large Castle originally
built in the 13th Century which is positioned above the town, guarding the gateway
to The Gorges de la Monne and was once owned by the infamous Catherine de Medicis.
It also possesses an excellent example of a Romanesque Church which you can discover
on the route down from the Castle.
Saint-Floret - This is a charming village built around a 13th Century Castle which
has frescoes in the Gothic Vaulted Ceilings pinted in the 14th Century. It to, has
a beautiful Romanesque Church worth visiting.
Montpeyroux - This is an attractive fortified village with a maze of narrow streets
and a position perched precariously on the edge of an escarpment which towers over
the limestone plain below. It has a tall Keep which is clearly visible from the valley
floor and also a dungeon, constructed in the 13th Century. Montpeyroux has traditionally
been home to artisans, stonemasons and craftsmen for many years and also to the many
wine-growers of this former premier centre of wine production.
